Invention Reference Number
When a magnetic field is applied to a type-II superconductor, it penetrates the superconductor in a thin cylindrical line known as a vortex line. Traditional methods to manipulate these vortices are limited in precision and affect a broad area. Our innovative approach targets and manipulates these vortex lines with nano-level precision. By doing so, we can create localized regions with controlled superconductivity levels and nano-scale trapping potential.
The decrease in superconductivity due to strain is attributed to the unique properties of layered materials like Fe-based superconductors. Using this trapping force, we have successfully displaced vortices by up to 140 nm, much larger than the original ~25 nm size of the vortex, offering unprecedented control. This invention provides a precise and localized method to manipulate superconducting properties, opening avenues for advanced research and potential applications in superconducting technology.
