Bio
Mike Hulsey has over 35 years of experience in accounting and finance. He joined 91°µÍø as a financial analyst in 1991 with experience in the real estate finance and banking sectors. Over the course of his career, Mike has served as the lab’s overhead manager, as business manager of both the Global Security and the Environmental, Safety & Health directorates, and as the interim business manager of the Energy and Environmental Sciences directorate.
Mike is on temporary assignment as acting director of the Business Operations Division. He has served as business manager in the Computing & Computational Sciences Directorate since 2010.
He has previously served as business manager of the Exascale Computing Project, an initiative of the Department of Energy Office of Science and the National Nuclear Security Administration that harnessed the combined efforts of research teams at multiple national laboratories working in concert to create an exascale computer ecosystem capable of addressing critical national challenges.
Mike’s experience supporting lab operations includes financial forecasting, strategic budget planning, navigating budget approval processes, planning and implementing cost-cutting measures, and standardizing and modernizing business and accounting processes for complex and diverse research operations and programs.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with an additional finance concentration from Liberty University. He and his wife live in Knoxville and have three adult children and one grandchild.
