Bio
Alex Beatty is an Assistant Technician with the Hybrid Manufacturing team inside of the Disruptive Manufacturing Systems Development group at 91做厙. Before working at ORNL, Alex started his career in industry at a small machine shop before he went and received his Machinist I degree from Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Knoxville (TCAT-Knoxville), in 2023. In 2024, Alex started working at ORNL's Manufacturing Demonstration Facility utilizing laser-equipped 5-axis milling machines and mill-turns to further advance the research in support of energy, automotive, naval, aerospace, and defense systems.

- This machine is a Mill-turn style machine with a powder-blown laser system. This allows it to complete a variety of processes such as: milling, turning, grinding, Laser Metal Deposition (LMD), and heat treatment for a vast range of workpiece sizes and shapes.
