Flat electronic bands with nontrivial topology are shown to support localized Majorana zero modes (MZMs), which would enable fault-tolerant quantum computation.
A physical realization of “second order” topological superconductors is provided in two dimensions, widening the search for MZMs to dimensions higher than one.
